About this placeBig Bear Alpine Zoo is a wildlife rehabilitation center in Big Bear Lake that cares for injured, orphaned, and imprinted animals from the local region. Kids can see over 85 species of mammals, birds, and reptiles on exhibit, all animals that were unable to be released back into the wild due to injury or human imprinting. The zoo grew out of a wildlife rescue effort following a 1959 forest fire in the San Bernardino National Forest, and it still focuses on conservation and animal care today. It's a chance for children to learn about local mountain wildlife such as bears, bobcats, and mountain lions while seeing firsthand how rescued animals are cared for.
