About this placeTexas Air Museum is a volunteer-run collection of military aviation history located at the Slaton Municipal Airport. Kids can walk through a static display yard of airplanes and hangars with flying aircraft, then explore two exhibit buildings covering everything from WWI to the space age. Displays include an original WWI biplane, WWII and Vietnam War pilot suits, ground trainers, a German Flak cannon, pieces of the USS Cabot aircraft carrier, and a Gemini training capsule once used by astronaut Gus Grissom, along with detailed aircraft models and dioramas. Volunteers are on hand to guide visitors through the artifacts and share the stories behind them. The museum is open Saturdays from 9AM to 5PM.
