About this place
The South Carolina Aquarium in downtown Charleston lets kids move through habitats from mountain forests to the open ocean, meeting river otters, bald eagles, sharks and stingrays along the way. A highlight for many families is the Great Ocean Tank, where a diver can be seen among more than 550 animals, plus the on-site Sea Turtle Care Center that shows the path from rescue to rehabilitation and release. Daily programs let children get close to animals, including a stingray feeding in The Shallows and a rotating creature-of-the-day talk with hands-on touch opportunities. The Aquarium is open daily except Thanksgiving and December 25, with last entry at 3:30 p.m., and nearby pay parking is available in a city garage on Calhoun Street. Admission runs $27.95 for ages 13 and up, $22.95 for children 3-12, and is free for toddlers, with reduced group rates for parties of 15 or more.
