About this placeBeavertail Aquarium sits inside the former foghorn house for the Beavertail Lighthouse in Jamestown, run by Rhode Island's State Park Naturalist program. Its tanks are set up to mimic the local shoreline, letting kids get a close look at crabs, fish, shellfish and the occasional tropical visitor swept in on ocean currents; staff collect the specimens from Narragansett Bay and release them back after a few weeks. Visits are free, and the aquarium is generally open daily from 10:30 AM to 4:30 PM between June and mid-October. Families can also join staff-led tidal pool walks at low tide, and school or scout groups can arrange naturalist-led education programs by contacting the park's naturalist coordinator in advance.
