About this placeThis 50 acre refuge in Tiverton combines woods, red maple swamp and salt marsh along the Sakonnet River, with an easy 1.6 mile trail system that families can walk in about an hour. Wildlife blinds along the trails let kids watch and photograph herons, egrets, ospreys and glossy ibis in their natural habitat, and river views can turn up ducks, loons and other waterbirds depending on the season. Trails are open daily from sunrise to sunset, and there is a portable toilet at the trailhead. Dogs are not permitted, bikes and motorized vehicles must stay in the parking lot, and picnicking is only allowed in designated spots elsewhere on Audubon land, so this is best treated as a quiet hiking and birdwatching stop rather than a place to linger and eat.
