Alameda Park Zoo is a 12-acre city-run zoo in Alamogordo that got its start in 1898 as a deer park and now houses around 200 animals across roughly 90 species. Paved sidewalks connect the exhibits, with shady, grassy areas, a playground, and a picnic spot for breaks between animal viewings. Kids can see the Mexican Gray Wolf conservation facility, and families can join guided tours or attend events like the annual Earth Day celebration and occasional summer movie nights. There is also an education center and gift shop on site, and school groups can arrange field trips for $1 per student.
