About this placeShofuso is a traditional Japanese house and garden in West Fairmount Park, built in Japan in 1953 and moved to Philadelphia in 1958. Families can walk through a hill and pond garden with a tiered waterfall, koi fish, and an island, plus a separate tea garden with a historic teahouse and a courtyard leading to a bathhouse. Inside the house, kids can see 20 murals donated by artist Hiroshi Senju. Visitors must remove their shoes before entering (socks required, no bare feet), and admission is by timed ticket, with reduced $2 pricing for SNAP/ACCESS cardholders and free entry for military members and Philadelphia high school students. The site is open Wednesday through Sunday, 11 AM to 5 PM, but note it is not wheelchair or scooter accessible due to its historic design.
A membership to Shofuso Japanese Cultural Center carries reciprocal admission, so the same card is worth free or discounted entry at other places in these programs.
Reciprocal programs are built for travel and most exclude places close to the one where you hold your membership, so this is worth the most when you are away from home. How reciprocal memberships work
