Schoolhouse Safari at Safari Station

Schoolhouse Safari is a family-run mobile program based in Lafayette that brings hands-on encounters with exotic animals like tortoises and bearded dragons to schools, libraries, birthday parties, scout events, and other group gatherings rather than operating as a walk-in facility. Handlers keep every animal on a leash of supervision, letting kids as young as age 3 gently touch or hold creatures such as the giant tortoise's hard shell or the bearded dragon's soft spikes, while look-only encounters are offered for anyone who prefers not to touch. Older children get more in-depth lessons on how each animal has adapted to its natural habitat, and parents or teachers stay involved to monitor interactions throughout. The company offers a 30-minute encounter package for parties along with table displays suited to festivals and larger community events.
