About this placeChahinkapa Zoo sits inside Chahinkapa Park in Wahpeton and has been introducing visitors to wildlife for over 90 years, with more than 70 species representing six continents. Kids can watch tigers, white-handed gibbons, orangutans, bears, snow leopards, rhinos, lemurs, monkeys and birds, among many others, in habitats designed to give animals room to roam. A highlight for families is the Prairie Rose Carousel, a restored 1926 ride with 20 hand-carved wooden horses, available for $3 per ride with multi-ride punch tickets offered to save money. Visitors can grab a quick bite at the snack stand and pick up a souvenir at the gift shop before heading out, and the zoo also runs educational programs and animal encounters for young learners.
