About this placeThis museum near Dover Air Force Base is the only one in the country focused on the history of airlift and air refueling, housed in the historic Hangar 1301. Kids and families can view a collection of military aircraft, and on Open Cockpit Day, held every third Saturday from April through October between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., visitors can climb into many of the planes and talk with tour guides, some of whom are retired crew members sharing firsthand stories. Admission and parking are free, though the museum is closed Mondays, Tuesdays, and federal holidays other than Veterans Day. A small canteen sells snacks and non-alcoholic drinks, but food isn't allowed inside the hangar or near the aircraft, and pets aren't permitted except trained service dogs. The main hangar floor, store, and restrooms are wheelchair accessible, and the C-141B Starlifter outside has a ramp for easier viewing.
