York’s Wild Kingdom

York's Wild Kingdom is a combined zoo and amusement park in York Beach, Maine, open seasonally from late May through late September. Kids can walk through landscaped animal exhibits featuring mammals, reptiles, and species from around the world, plus a petting zoo and the 5,500-square-foot Butterfly Kingdom exhibit. In the Parakeet Encounter, visitors can buy a food stick and hand-feed some of the more than 300 parakeets living there. Beyond the animals, the park has family-friendly carnival rides, a miniature golf course, concession stands, and a gift shop, making it an easy full-day outing just steps from Short Sands Beach. The zoo has been family-owned and operating since 1980 and receives no state or federal funding, relying on admission and donations to cover animal care costs.
