Virginia Zoo

Virginia Zoo in Norfolk lets kids explore animal habitats like the Africa: Okavango Delta area and the World of Reptiles and Friends, plus a ZooFarm with a Goat Yard. Beyond the exhibits, children can burn energy in the Run Wild Nature Discovery Zone, a one-acre natural playground with a bamboo maze, willow tunnel, dig boxes and balance beams, or climb on Snavely, a giant snake sculpture that doubles as a play structure near the reptile house. An Enrichment Playground at the Animal Wellness Campus uses the same enrichment items given to the zoo's animals. Food options on site include the African Village Restaurant, the Beastro near the reptile exhibits, and a Mini Melts stand, though outside food is not permitted (Lafayette Park just outside the zoo allows picnicking). The zoo is AZA-accredited since 1987 and is certified sensory-inclusive through KultureCity, with sensory bags including noise-reducing headphones available.
