About this placeUCR Botanic Gardens is a 40-acre living plant museum in the foothills on the east side of the UC Riverside campus, with four miles of trails winding through curated plant collections and quiet spots to sit and take in the views. Kids can spot wildlife along the way, since the gardens are a certified habitat home to birds, lizards, insects and other animals, though there are also rattlesnakes and occasional coyotes or bobcats, so children under 16 need to stay with an adult. On the first Sunday of the month from January through October there is a free Storytime and Origami session, and Master Gardener docents are often on hand in the Butterfly Garden on first and third Sundays from April through October. The suggested donation is $5 per adult, and groups larger than 10 should arrange a docent-led or self-guided tour in advance by calling ahead.
A membership to UC Riverside Botanic Gardens carries reciprocal admission, so the same card is worth free or discounted entry at other places in this program.
Reciprocal programs are built for travel and most exclude places close to the one where you hold your membership, so this is worth the most when you are away from home. How reciprocal memberships work
