A museum of art in downtown Hartford holding nearly 50,000 works spanning 5,000 years. The collection ranges from ancient Greek and Roman pieces through European and American paintings to contemporary work, including notable holdings of Hudson River School landscapes, Impressionist paintings, Surrealist art, and Baroque masterpieces. Families can explore galleries devoted to decorative arts, prints, textiles, and firearms, with interactive displays encouraging closer looking. The museum, founded in 1842 and opened to the public in 1844, recently completed a major renovation that added new gallery spaces and made all exhibitions accessible at once.
A membership to The Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art carries reciprocal admission, so the same card is worth free or discounted entry at other places in this program.
Reciprocal programs are built for travel and most exclude places close to the one where you hold your membership, so this is worth the most when you are away from home. How reciprocal memberships work
