About this placeThe Brenton Arboretum is a large outdoor tree collection and public garden near Dallas Center, Iowa, with walking trails winding across hills, valleys, and prairie for families to explore together. Kids can burn off energy at the O'Brien nature play area while parents rest and take in the seasonal scenery, from spring crabapple blossoms to fall color. More than 2,200 trees and shrubs, representing 486 species, hybrids, and cultivars, are labeled with common and scientific names, making it easy to turn a walk into a simple lesson in identification. The arboretum also runs a Knee-High Naturalist program that gets young children into nature play and hands-on outdoor learning. Admission is free, the grounds are open daily from 9 am until sunset, and maps are available at the Visitor Information Kiosk near the main gate; dogs are welcome on leash with a day pass or membership fee.
A membership to The Brenton Arboretum carries reciprocal admission, so the same card is worth free or discounted entry at other places in this program.
Reciprocal programs are built for travel and most exclude places close to the one where you hold your membership, so this is worth the most when you are away from home. How reciprocal memberships work
