About this placeThe New York Aquarium sits on the boardwalk in Coney Island and lets kids get close to sea life through shows, exhibits, and hands-on experiences. Visitors can watch sea lion shows and penguin feeds, view sharks, rays, sea otters, octopus, jellyfish, sand tiger sharks, and cuttlefish, and catch live seasonal animal encounters with penguins and sea lions from April through October. The PlayQuarium exhibit is designed for children and families, featuring a life-sized kelp forest, a submarine activity where kids search for bioluminescent fish, and a Touch Pool where they can meet crabs, marine snails, and sea urchins with staff on hand to explain the animals. PlayQuarium is bilingual in English and Spanish, wheelchair accessible, and built with tactile elements for younger visitors. The Aquatheater hosts one of Coney Island's shows, though it is worth checking the site for any temporary closures before a visit.
