About this placeThis museum preserves the history of the World War II naval air station once located in Fort Lauderdale, famous as the home base of the mysteriously lost Flight 19. Families can view vintage ship and aircraft models, WWII artifacts, flight gear, medals and uniforms from every branch of the military, plus a large mural signed by notable military and political figures. Outdoors, kids can see real WWII hardware including torpedoes, a TBM/TBF Avenger aircraft, an anti-aircraft gun, and an anti-submarine Hedgehog weapon. The site also houses a research library with thousands of military history volumes and a photo collection of historic aircraft and ships. Tours are offered on a pay-what-you-wish basis, making it an accessible stop for a history-focused day out.
