About this place

Come and visit the Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville in the heart of downtown Jacksonville by Historic James Weldon Johnson Park. Our mission is to serve the community and its visitors through exhibitions, collections, educational programs, and publications designed to enhance an understanding and appreciation of modern and contemporary art with particular emphasis on works created from 1960 to the present. The Museum’s permanent collection includes outstanding works by regional, national, and international modern and contemporary artists such as Helen Frankenthaler, Joan Miro, Pablo Picasso, Alexander Calder, Philip Pearlstein, James Rosenquist, and Jerry Serra. MOCA Jacksonville offers a wide range of programming including traveling exhibitions, studio art classes, lectures, concerts, films, performances, guided tours, children’s programming, and special events. Founded in 1924, the Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville was the first visual arts organization in Jacksonville, one of the first art museums in the state of Florida, and one of the first contemporary art museums to be founded in the United States. In 2009, MOCA became a cultural institute of the University of North Florida, creating a turning point for the museum and bringing its ongoing themes of art and education full circle. Through this partnership, the museum is committed to creating a place where everyone in the UNF community can interact with and learn from museum content, enjoy entertainment and enrichment opportunities, view art and ideas from around the world, and engage in career development opportunities that prepare students for life after graduation. Beyond those directly affiliated with the university, MOCA—as UNF’s downtown footprint— links campus to community and enables the University to reach audiences around the world through intellectual and cultural exchange, partnerships, and professional leadership.

Reciprocal programs are built for travel and most exclude places close to the one where you hold your membership, so this is worth the most when you are away from home. How reciprocal memberships work
