Zoo Knoxville is home to more than 1,500 animals across roughly 200 species, spread through themed habitat areas that kids can explore up close. Highlights include the Valley of the Kings with African lions and Hamadryas baboons, the Tiger Temple where Malayan tigers Tahan and Batari live, and a two-story Gibbon Encounter overlooking Langur Landing. Families can watch active river otters, visit chimpanzees and gorillas, see critically endangered crocodiles at feeding time, and meet red pandas, since the zoo is known as the Red Panda Capital of the World with over 110 births there. Daily Asian Trek chats and other keeper talks add conservation education to the visit, and the zoo participates in species survival and breeding programs for animals like gibbons and Malayan tigers.
