About this placeCentral Coast Zoo, formerly known as Charles Paddock Zoo, sits on five wooded acres inside Atascadero Lake Park and houses more than 200 animals across over 60 species, including fossa, red pandas, lemurs and meerkats. It is the only AZA-accredited zoo in San Luis Obispo County, and families can walk the grounds in about an hour or spend a full day exploring. Kids can get close-up views of mammals, birds, reptiles and insects, then head next door to the park's playgrounds, open lawns, walking paths and paddleboat rentals on the lake. A gift shop on site sells refreshments and has strollers available. The zoo is open daily from 10am to 4pm in summer and Thursday through Monday the rest of the year, with general admission at $13.50 for residents, seniors, military, families and students with ID.
A membership to Central Coast Zoo carries reciprocal admission, so the same card is worth free or discounted entry at other places in this program.
Reciprocal programs are built for travel and most exclude places close to the one where you hold your membership, so this is worth the most when you are away from home. How reciprocal memberships work
