About this placeThe Center for American Archeology in Kampsville, Illinois, is a nonprofit research and education organization that has run archaeology programs since 1953. Older kids and teens can take part in hands-on activities such as scouting merit badge programs and a high school field school that introduces students to real archaeological excavation and lab work under staff supervision. The CAA also runs adult and internship field schools, so families with older teens may find opportunities tied to those programs. Note that the CAA Museum, normally located in the historic Kamp Store, has been closed since a 2019 flood and the pandemic, with plans to reopen in a new Kampsville location; check current status before planning a visit.
A membership to Center for American Archeology carries reciprocal admission, so the same card is worth free or discounted entry at other places in this program.
Reciprocal programs are built for travel and most exclude places close to the one where you hold your membership, so this is worth the most when you are away from home. How reciprocal memberships work
