About this placeThis museum and archival library in Edwardsville tells the history of Madison County through exhibits and a large collection of historical materials. Housed across the 1836 Weir House, a modern library building, and the Helms Collection Center, the site holds letters, diaries, photographs, scrapbooks, maps, and local records that families and student researchers can explore with staff help. Exhibits have moved away from old-fashioned guided tours of curiosities toward a more hands-on, visitor-led experience covering the diverse people and events that shaped the county. Note that the museum is currently undergoing major renovation, so visitors should expect smaller in-person displays along with a growing set of digital exhibits in the meantime.
Good to knowA membership to Madison County Historical Museum and Archival Library carries reciprocal admission, so the same card is worth free or discounted entry at other places in this program.
Reciprocal programs are built for travel and most exclude places close to the one where you hold your membership, so this is worth the most when you are away from home. How reciprocal memberships work
