About this place
Catoctin Wildlife Preserve is a 50-acre zoo in Thurmont, Maryland, about 20 minutes north of Frederick, home to roughly 1,000 exotic animals including bears, boas, macaws, monkeys, panthers, pythons, alligators and zebras. Kids can wander past natural ponds and landscaped habitats, meet staff "ambass-zoo-dors" who bring animals out for close encounters, and ride the on-site safari ride, weather permitting. The preserve also offers sloth encounters, group visits, and birthday party options, plus an educational focus on wildlife conservation. It is open daily from 9am to 5pm, with the last admission at 4pm.
