A museum house on Jackson Square showing how people lived in New Orleans during the 1850s. Visitors tour rooms furnished with period pieces, art, and decorative objects from that era, including paintings, silver, and china. The house tells the story of the Baroness de Pontalba, who built the structure, and the people who lived there, from enslaved workers to Irish immigrant servants. A kitchen with a cast-iron range is among the rooms on display. The ground floor and courtyard are wheelchair accessible, though the upper floors cannot be fully adapted due to the building's historic status. Walking tours of the surrounding French Quarter are available twice daily.
A membership to 1850 House carries reciprocal admission, so the same card is worth free or discounted entry at other places in this program.
Reciprocal programs are built for travel and most exclude places close to the one where you hold your membership, so this is worth the most when you are away from home. How reciprocal memberships work
