About this place
Time Out is a family-owned bar and arcade in Ames that grew out of a smaller location the owners first opened in Nevada, Iowa, in 2016 before consolidating everything into this larger Ames spot in 2017. The space is packed with classic arcade and pinball machines, many of them 30 to 40 years old, alongside a full bar with beers on tap, liquor, and specialty drinks. On Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights it hosts karaoke, where visitors can browse songs ahead of time through the Karafun app and then sign up at the desk. The atmosphere leans toward an adult hangout for reliving arcade memories over drinks rather than a strictly kid-focused space, though the arcade games themselves are open to play.
