About this placeThis museum in Weatherford spans 75,000 square feet of exhibits honoring astronaut and test pilot Lt. General Thomas P. Stafford, a hometown native. Kids can see real aircraft like the F-86 Sabre, A-10 Warthog, and F-16, plus a newly arrived F-117A Nighthawk stealth fighter, and it is the only museum in the world displaying test-fired, flight-ready Saturn V and Soviet N-1 rocket engines from the Space Race. Full-scale replicas of the Apollo Command and Lunar Modules, the Wright Flyer, and the Spirit of St. Louis give a hands-on sense of aviation history, while a Lockheed F-104 Starfighter towers outside the entrance as a photo-worthy landmark. The museum is a Smithsonian Affiliate and a Blue Star Museum, offering free admission to active-duty military from Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day.
