About this placeMaple Lanes is a historic bowling alley in Cleveland that has been in the same family since 1964, when sisters Ann Abranovich and Josephine Reeves bought the building, which had operated as a bowling alley since 1940. It is one of only twelve alleys in the country still recognized for using manually operated pin setters instead of automated machines, so kids can watch pins being reset by hand between frames. The lanes themselves are made of real aged maple wood rather than modern laminate, giving the surface natural dips and waves that make each game feel different from typical bowling centers. Scoring is still done by hand on paper scorecards, a nice change of pace for families used to digital scoreboards. The alley has stayed largely unchanged for decades, giving visitors an old-school bowling experience alongside a long-running family business.
