About this placeMandarin Museum and Historical Society sits inside Walter Jones Historical Park along the St. Johns River, where families can walk a riverfront boardwalk and explore a cluster of preserved 19th-century buildings. Kids can peek into the 1875 Webb-Jones Farmhouse, the 1876 Barn, the 1892 Losco Winery Log Cabin, and the 1898 St. Joseph's Mission Schoolhouse for African American Children, the only remaining one-room schoolhouse in Duval County. The museum itself is free to enter Tuesday through Saturday, 10 am to 4 pm, and guided tours of the historic buildings run the same days for a suggested $7 donation per person, with children age 2 and under free. On the first Saturday of each month all the historic buildings open with docents inside at no cost, and the separate Historic Mandarin Store & Post Office nearby keeps the same first-Saturday hours. The park has picnic tables, restrooms, and a paved path to the farmhouse, and the museum, park, and schoolhouse are wheelchair accessible.
A membership to Mandarin Museum and Historical Society carries reciprocal admission, so the same card is worth free or discounted entry at other places in this program.
Reciprocal programs are built for travel and most exclude places close to the one where you hold your membership, so this is worth the most when you are away from home. How reciprocal memberships work
