About this placeHoused in a historic art deco airport terminal next to McConnell Air Force Base, this museum traces the story of Kansas aviation through restored aircraft and a Hall of Fame honoring the state's notable aviators. Kids can wander through the building where celebrities like Amelia Earhart and Charles Lindbergh once passed, climb up to the 1941 control tower for a view over the base and Spirit Aerosystems, and head out to the back ramp to see 12 more aircraft on display. The museum's archives hold original documents, photos, and blueprints tracing aviation history, and volunteers work on hands-on restoration projects ranging from early production planes to the Beechcraft Bonanza. It is open every day except Thursday, and a free Senior Thursday presentation series runs on the second Thursday of each month.
