About this place

Historic Rugby, Inc. is a 501(c)3 Nonprofit Organization and living Victorian village, originally founded in 1880 as the Rugby colony by British author Thomas Hughes, with the organization established in 1966 to preserve, protect, and interpret the man-made and natural historic resources and heritage of the British Isles and of Appalachia. The mission of Historic Rugby is to carry out and encourage, within the context of a living historical village, the restoration, preservation, protection, management and the interpretation of the man-made and natural historic resources, and the British and Appalachian heritage for the education and benefit of all people. Learn Rugby’s remarkable story, and tour historic buildings, including the first free public library in the South.

If you are a member here

A membership to Historic Rugby carries reciprocal admission, so the same card is worth free or discounted entry at other places in this program.

Reciprocal programs are built for travel and most exclude places close to the one where you hold your membership, so this is worth the most when you are away from home. How reciprocal memberships work
