About this placeThis museum near Fort Rucker traces the history of Army helicopters and airplanes, from a replica of the Wright Brothers' military flyer to modern aircraft, with more than 160 planes and helicopters on display, one of the largest such collections in the world. Kids can walk through exhibits covering troop transport, medical evacuation, scouting missions, and armed helicopter combat, including an actual Blackhawk helicopter, tail number Super 68, that was shot down in the 1993 Battle of Mogadishu. There is also a Vietnam memorial honoring Army Aviation personnel and an Army Aviation Hall of Fame section highlighting notable figures. Admission is free, making it an easy stop for families interested in military history and aircraft.
