Teri Smith Rock Hunts

Teri Smith Rock Hunts leads guided rockhounding field trips out to private ranches around Alpine, Balmorhea, and Study Butte in the Big Bend region of Texas, running mostly in March and April each spring. Families are welcome and there is no cap on group size, so kids can join adults out searching the hills and flats for agate, jasper, petrified wood, flint, and chert. Guests sign up in advance by phone or email, giving the number of adults and kids under about 12 attending, and meet at set starting points such as the Little Caesar's Pizza parking lot in Alpine before heading out by 8 or 9 a.m. Joining a hunt requires Rollin' Rock Club membership, priced at $10 for a single membership or $16 for a dual membership.
