About this placeThis museum in Canandaigua occupies a Georgian Revival building from 1914 designed by architect Claude Bragdon, and it houses the Ontario County Historical Society's collection of artifacts, photographs, and archival records tracing the county's past. Families can walk through gallery spaces that rotate an annual history exhibit alongside quarterly art shows from the Ontario County Arts Council, plus the Open Hearth Kitchen, the one original exhibit still intact from when the building first opened. The museum and research center welcome visitors Tuesday through Friday from 10 to 4:30 and Saturdays from 11 to 3, with a parking lot behind the building reachable from Main Street or Gibson Street. An elevator entrance at the back makes the galleries accessible, though the lower gallery has a narrower doorway of 28 inches for those using a wheelchair or walker.
A membership to Ontario County Historical Society carries reciprocal admission, so the same card is worth free or discounted entry at other places in this program.
Reciprocal programs are built for travel and most exclude places close to the one where you hold your membership, so this is worth the most when you are away from home. How reciprocal memberships work
