About this placeThe Montana Historical Society operates out of the Montana Heritage Center in Helena, right next to the state Capitol Building, and houses a museum, library and archives, cafe, and gift shop. Families can walk through galleries covering more than 13,000 years of Montana history, view the artwork of cowboy artist Charles M. Russell, and check out a rotating changing gallery that currently features a midcentury modern art collection. Museum entry is free, and regularly scheduled guided tours of both the museum and the nearby Capitol building are offered at no charge. Kids can also grab a snack at Norm's Cafe or browse locally made gifts and books in the museum store before or after exploring the exhibits.
A membership to Montana Historical Society carries reciprocal admission, so the same card is worth free or discounted entry at other places in this program.
Reciprocal programs are built for travel and most exclude places close to the one where you hold your membership, so this is worth the most when you are away from home. How reciprocal memberships work
