McDonald Observatory

Ages 6–16
3640 Dark Sky Dr, Fort Davis, TX 79734, USA

About this place

An observatory on a West Texas mountaintop with some of the darkest skies in continental North America. Families can take daytime tours to see large research telescopes and learn about astronomical discoveries, or attend evening Star Parties to view the night sky. The venue runs education programs for schools, including field trips and online classes, and maintains exhibits on site. McDonald Observatory has been advancing astronomical science since 1939.

If you are a member here

A membership to McDonald Observatory carries reciprocal admission, so the same card is worth free or discounted entry at other places in this program.

  • NARM in Texas Art, history and cultural institutions. Not valid within 15 miles of here.

Reciprocal programs are built for travel and most exclude places close to the one where you hold your membership, so this is worth the most when you are away from home. How reciprocal memberships work
