About this placeEl Presidio de Santa Barbara State Historic Park is a preserved 18th-century Spanish fort in downtown Santa Barbara, where kids can walk through original adobe buildings and reconstructed rooms that show what life was like for soldiers and their families. Families start at the Visitor Center for an orientation and a tour booklet with a map, then explore the site on their own, including the Chapel, Comandancia, Padre's Quarters, an old orchard, an exposed archaeological wall, and a two-story observation tower with heritage gardens. There are also exhibits on the Japanese American community that once lived on the site. Admission is $5 for adults and $4 for seniors, while children 16 and under get in free, and the ticket also covers nearby Casa de la Guerra. Guided tours run Saturday and Sunday at 2pm, and hourly parking is available in the lot next door on Canon Perdido Street.
Good to knowA membership to El Presidio de Santa Barbara State Historic Park carries reciprocal admission, so the same card is worth free or discounted entry at other places in this program.
Reciprocal programs are built for travel and most exclude places close to the one where you hold your membership, so this is worth the most when you are away from home. How reciprocal memberships work
