About this placeThe Tanner House Museum is a preserved Italianate-style home built in 1857 for merchant William Tanner, now run by the Aurora Historical Society and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Kids and parents can tour rooms with high ceilings, oak woodwork, ornate plaster details, and period Victorian furnishings, getting a hands-on sense of daily life in the 1800s. The museum is open Sundays 1 to 4 p.m. from May 3 through September 27, 2026 (closed July 5), with admission of $5 for visitors 16 and up and $3 for ages 5 to 15, while children under 5 and Historical Society members get in free. Every Fourth of July the museum hosts a free celebration after the parade, with tours, live entertainment, and a patriotic band concert. It sits at the corner of Oak and Cedar streets in Aurora, two blocks west of Route 31 and two blocks north of New York Street.
A membership to Aurora Historical Society- Tanner House Museum carries reciprocal admission, so the same card is worth free or discounted entry at other places in this program.
Reciprocal programs are built for travel and most exclude places close to the one where you hold your membership, so this is worth the most when you are away from home. How reciprocal memberships work
