About this place
This aquarium, part of the ABQ BioPark and sited next to the Rio Grande, walks children through a themed journey following the river from Albuquerque down to the Gulf of Mexico, introducing them to the aquatic animals found along that route. Exhibits focus on the colorful and varied world of water life, giving kids a chance to see fish and other creatures native to the region as well as coastal and gulf species. It is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm, though it closes on Mondays between Veterans Day and Presidents Day, plus Thanksgiving, December 25, and January 1. As a city-run BioPark facility, it pairs well with a broader day trip since it sits alongside the zoo and botanic garden in the same complex.
